Is shampooing daily harmful for the hair?

Everyday washing shouldn't be a concern as long as you are using a mild shampoo, which can suit your normal hair. Something that nourishes while it cleanses. If your hair doesn't feel unclean, just sweaty it is okay to simply rinse out the sweat too if you choose to.

Also, after wash, keep your damp hair in a turbaned towel for about 15 minutes. Finger comb it in a gentle massage like movements and only brush gently.

The right way of washing Hair

Oiling my hair every time does not help it in any way. On the contrary, you end up using more shampoo every time, damaging the hairs natural oil balance, making it dry. Once a fortnight oiling is just fine. To wash your hair, always wet it first before applying shampoo. Then, lather it by massaging with your fingertips. Rinse thoroughly until squeaky clean. Pat dry and finger comb out the tangles or use a wide tooth comb.

How to treat split ends?

Split ends, which are mainly caused when your hairs cell fail to hold together are result of exposure to harsh elements, chemicals or even excessive brushing.

The right kind of shampoo will minimize hair damage. Meanwhile it is also important to replenish ceramides, which are hairs natural cement, and is responsible for holding the hair cells together. A ceramides enriched shampoo will help repair hair fibre and reduce split ends.

To maintain Oily Hair

Oily hair always goes with any oily skin. The scalp has a tendency to secrete excess oil, which makes it lank and greasy. It is therefore important to keep the scalp will only activate the oil glands causing further oiliness. So will combing more than required more so ever, do not succumb to the temptations of a harsh shampoo, which temporarily restores your hair but in the long run harms it.

Using a special shampoo for oily hair is the best, which is gentle enough to be used often. Also essential is to rinse at the shampoo thoroughly finishing with cold water.

For thin and limp Hair

Thin, limp, hair does not have a tendency to fall flat and dead. What you need is a volume booster. For starters choose your shampoo carefully. Ordinary shampoos donut do much for your kind of hair. Look up a shampoo especially for limp hair

Secondly, donut comb your hair when wet, Let it dry naturally and finger comb it. A hair dryer can boost your hair for a while but on a regular basis can prove harmful for your hair. Then, brush your brush straight from your scalp and shake it free

For Dry Brittle Hair

First check your shampoo! If you are using a harsh, unsuitable shampoo, it will not only dry your hair, it will cause breakage and dry scalp may turn flaky and cause a lot of other problems.

Use an especially mild shampoo made for dry hair. One fortified with essential oils to replace the last nourishment is ideal. A good conditioner also helps soften dry hair. After wash keep your damphair in a turbaned towel for about 15 minutes.

Finger comb it in a gentle massage like movements-this-will activate the oil glands in your scalp. Then brush it gently. Oil massages followed by a steamy, hot towel on your head every 15 days will also help get rid of dryness

Hair Highlighting

With highlighting your hair can look brighter and glossier. However, salt and pepper combinations (contrasting mix of dark and light shades) should be avoided as they are unnatural and old-fashioned, and can be misread as dark hair turning Grey.

Although perfect highlighting requires to be handled by professionals, some wonderful effects can also be created with home-made treatments. Like finger painting and streaking can be used quite easily.

wat is the best way to do this? i need to get my hair healthy again becuz relaxer don't work on it anymore, but my hair is very short and gets hard to comb when it is natural. i do moisturize it, but are there any styling tips so my hair will be easier to comb and style?

While you are transtioning, I would suggest to style your hair in the style you want it in before it dries after a wash. You can use rollers if its long enough for that. If it's not, then as it grows you can put it in ponytails to dry or the rollers.

I am not sure what you moisturize with, but most products made for AA women are not even moisturizers. Like oils. They only seal in moisture. I know some women transitioned using scurl activator to help them be able to comb it better. (I used liquid hair mayo by africa's best which I think led to my not having much breakage) Always use the widest tooth comb you can find. And maybe experimenting with the no poo method. Meaning don't wash with shampoo. Conditioner can work just fine. (yes it's true) if you still are not so sure about it, add some lemon juice to it or use vo5 clarifying conditoner kiwi and lime. Shampoo tends to strip the hair. Leading you to continually have to fight the battle of dry hair.

Well I will assume you have curly hair if you are using relaxers

first keep conditioning it if you have any beer around pour that on it and leave it do not wash it out the hops and wheat in beer is great for your hair and also put a leave in conditioner every day. there is also this spray you get to help the curl spray it on it is like anti frizz spray and just scrunch your hair with your hand after do not blow dry it ever.. It will be better than you know it in no time.. I was born with straight hair had a hospital stay and then came out with curly it took me a while to get used to it but them are the tricks I have found work. if you can help it do not wash it every day the number 1 problem with curly hair for some reason has less oil than other hair washing it strips the hair.. if you can go without washing and the same day pour the beer on even better.. Also if you put on a conditioner that you wash out put it on at night and comb it in and wash it out the next day hope this helps

Laser hair removal isn't permenant, no matter what anybody says, all it does it thin the hair. My dermatologist told me it's not FDA approved "permanent". It is a good idea if you want to do large areas of hair.

Electrolysis removes each hair is incredibly time consuming. That's only if there's a few dark hairs you want to get rid of.

Consult your dermatologist to find the best treatment for you, but it sounds like laser will be the most beneficial since it's such a large area of skin..

Use a wide tooth comb to get tangles out. Use a leave-in conditioner and frizz fighter to help combat the frizz. Get regular trims and don't style too much (avoid heated stylers like curling irons and flat irons and blow dryers). I have sorta wavy hair, and I wash my hair in the evening, let it mostly air dry, then pull it into a low pony tail for the rest of the night to kinda 'stretch' the wave out. Works for me, you might want to give it a try. (Don't wrap the hair too tight in the pony or it will dent the hair)

it looks cooler, with those wacky colors lol, to make it look uneven on the tips...or highlights...whatever u want to do. but if ur not a blonde already....those areas that ur gonna dye pink will need to be bleached first then u can dye them pink afterwards so that the pink actually shows up.

eat right, get it TRIMMED ever 6-8wks, and deep condition at least once a wk. and im sorry there is nothing you can mix together or buy that will make it grow. your hair only grows a half inch per month, but if u do not do the above 3, it will stunt your hairs growth. keep in mind you are trimming it not cuttin it.

You gotta use a leave in hair conditioner all the time to try and prevent split ends. Frequent washing and conditioning is better for your hair because your constantly going from one extreme to another with temperatures.

Vo5 miracle mist is great because it doesn;t feel heavy or gluggy at all.

heres what i do: i have really long curly hair and i only get it trimmed every six months (moreso now because i'm happy with the length) condition like crazy. i condition my ends, shampoo, then condition all my hair. i towel dry then use a conditioning serum. use really thick elastics (headbands work the best). they're gentle on your hair. and don't wash everyday. buy shampoos and conditioners that add extra moisture. herbal essences makes a great moisturizing shampoo. stay away from any styling products, that includes hot irons. just stay natural and moisurized and that will help your ends from drying out so much that you don't need to cut as much off next time you go for a trim. good luck. curly hair rocks!!!

Keep it moisturized! Try to use Biolage Shampoo and conditioner they have a moisturizing one that works great. It's like $15 a bottle though but the bottles are big (33 oz). You will see a difference and also try Infusium leave in moisturizing conditioner. Once I got a relaxer on my curly hair and it broke out and I had to grow it all back. I put grease on it at night and braided it every night in at least two french braids but mostly cornrow type braids. It sounds crazy but it worked. Also, you might want to try an oil treatment like V05 hot oil to keep it moisturized.

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Use a teaspoon of every oil and honey,.... a little more if ur hair is long or a little less if ur hair is short

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed, fortify, reconstruct, moisturize, soften %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can also use a conditioner but get a light conditioner that wont wiegh ur hair down, becuz u can over condition, I use herbl essences "clean happy" conditioner.

When I do this at nite, I wake up, shampoo %26amp; condition, rinse and style as usual. Has worked for years

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

After you cut or trim off the dead hair..always use a moisturizing cream by Loreal. It is called Nature's therapy perfect curls defining creme. It comes in a dark orange tube. The cream is white and it is great stuff..

It is not sticky, or greasy, you can run your fingers through your hair when using it and manage your hair that way. I have medium to long hair, curly but when i use this product it works wonders for me..You have to buy a few tubes because of my hair length.

but i recommend this product to everyone!

wash your hair twice a week.. but remember to apply lots of conditioner..and if possible leave the conditioer for 3-5min on your hair before you wash it off.. and dont use too much of water to wash the conditioner off... and if you find any split ends trying triming it towards the end dont cut it so short... it should help you...

Ok, my hair gets frizzy very easily. I am afraid to wash it myself because evrytime I do , it turns into a big frizzy dry mess, even my flat iron cant save it. I go to the hair dresser to get my hair permed and washed and even she has to sit me under the dryer, blow dry, and flat iron, and like a week or so later it's back frizzy. I try to take tips from my hair dresser on how to stop the frizz but it still doesn't work. My hair is natural wavy but I get the perm to make it straight. Could that be my problem? If someone can tell me what type of hair I have(with my perm), that would be helpful. Does anyone have any tips on how to stop frizz? Thanks.

ok...so, I know you have "black" hair, but hair is hair...so go to the hair care aisle and find a really good conditioner with all the vitamins, especially B5, panthenol, and also try the V05 hot oil treatment...deep condition your hair at least once a week, and get the Infusium leave in treatment, and use that everyday...

Your hair is thirsty, and the strands are like little ribbons because your hair follicles are shaped like a line, (straight hair is from round follicles) I just put that in to illustrate a point...so you have to try to pump up the individual strands so they won't be so dry and frizzy...that is why you need to condition every day. I know about that whole "don't want to get your hair wet" thing, but what you want to do is to try to get your hair to hold onto as much of the water that is in your hair as possible.

After conditioning, use a good oil based conditioning treatment, to lock the moisture in.

Have you ever tried a hair gloss? Biosilk is good, but expensive - around $25 for a small bottle. Proclaim is good too and a lot cheaper. I buy it at Sally Beauty Supply. Don't use too much, though. A little goes a long way. Good luck!

I have the same problem. There is this thing that I saw on t.v and it is like a brush, and an stratening iron for your hair. It also cuts a half inch off you hair and gets rid of your slip ends. It's amazing!!! I don't know what it's called but you can try to google it.

i would say at least $100.... b/c 700 is an excellent price for extensions! i would really say $200....but, thats just me, i think for a cut you should at least give $10...

I need a REALLY good hair product or tip for my crazy hair. Its about shoulder length and its wavy/curly, and VERY thick, and when i let it air dry it gets HUGE!!! Its not too frizzy more poofy and I'd like better more controlled and curls. I need a product that I can just put in my hair easily because I swim first period at school!!

Also, I don't want my hair to have more volume, actually I'd like less and thats something thats so hard for me to find!!

There really is not magic product that can make your hair less poofy. As much as I wish there was, there isn't. You need a good conditioner. Moisturizing is key. I can't really suggest specific products because what might work for me or someone else might not do anything for you. Its all trial and error.

- Try cutting down on shampooing

- Get a good conditioner and leave in conditioner

- Try using a curling mousse or gel but gel usually leaves you crunchy

- You could try using a texture softner

- Also when its wet try putting it in loose braids to get it to dry in curls.

I don't know that product can do much to take down volume like you're describing. Try chemically straightening at the salon. If your hair is extremely curly, it won't straighten it out completely...it should just make the curls more loose and wavy. You can also ask your hairdresser to thin it out.

i used to have hair like yours, and pantene pro-v conditioner worked WONDERS.

i don't know what to do about swimming though, because i'm not a swimmer. my sister uses a sports/swim shampoo, and her hair is not damaged by the chlorine. i don't know whether you have time to take a shower after swimming. you could try wearing a swim cap and then putting conditioner on your hair quickly in the shower.

I looked up some salons and they have starting prices. I want to dye my tips in front of my hair and maybe parts of my bangs. I wouldn't get any color anywhere else except the front of my hair. I don't really want to pay $35 and up for tips. The only reasons i want to go to a salon is that 1.The color I want(white or pink) can't be done well at home and 2. I don't want to waste a whole box of dye for tips. All the hair dyes i buy say not to save any left over dye.

My hair is at my feet.... Currently it's 66 inches long and I do occasionally get my hair caught on all sorts of things.... I wear my hair down and loose I would say 95% of the time and just have to be aware of it at all times.... it's just a reflex when i start to get close to something that I know can harm my hair I wrap it around my arm.... I sleep with my hair down also and my husband never has the problem of waking up wraped in my hair unless he wants to be.... haha.... I keep it above my pillow and make a little area where my hair stays.... I guess by now it's just trained and knows it's place :o) Anywhooo.... Just try and be more aware and hold on to your hair when you know your around certain objects.... It can be done and I wish you luck.... I have long hair also and I know it can be extremely annoying (Especially when you use the Restroom) but I put my hair in a VERY high ponytail or in a clip it keeps my hair out of the way, for the most part and sometimes I even put it in a Ballet Bun. i relaxed my hair again after only the tips of my hair were relaxed....after awhile i started using hairspray everyday and blowdry my hair , at times i would sleep with hairspray in my hair not knowing the dmg it would cause. Several days after i notice my hair getting thinner and smaller in quantity. Now it's like really thin and the light passes through easily..my hair only seems full in the sun now.. I think a major factor that affected my hair was leaving my hairspray in while i slept. Now i wash my hair everyday and get the hairspray out. I use hair tonic afterwards leaving it in. I've heard that if your hair isnt coming out in clumps then your hair should be ok. Plus when hair falls out new hair regenerates in its place. Why did you only apply the relaxer to your tips? Never use hair spray in your hair. It will cause the hair to become hard and dry and break off. Stop blow drying your hair. Using to much heat on your hair will cause it to dry out and break off.

Use Doo Gro Anti-Thinning Lotion and also get Doo Gro Thickening Oil . Both products work really great.

Yeah it is ok. I used it for a little when I had longer hair. It is awesome for a beach look hair that is still touchable. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, so I have to be careful I don't wear anything too heavy.

Try the BioSilk line for dry frizzy hair. It works wonders. Use it in wet hair as a leave in conditioner. I don't like the Aussie line. Its too cheap and you get what you pay for.

I don't think one has anything to do with the other, except you really should not do a lot of procedures with your hair one on top of the other. Sounds like you don't have any chemicals in your hair now since you've never had a perm. First thing I would do, is condition my hair with a good conditioner, don't shampoo for a few days, shampoo, then wait a day or so and then put color in your hair. If there is any coloring that is made specifically for African-American hair, I'd use that. However, you may want to start out with a non-permanent color--Clairol makes one and it comes in a lot of shades. Sounds like deep burgundy would be nice. Stay away from the carrot red shades and the blond highlights. You want to enhance your beauty. You don't need a perm before you color. Good luck. Go to Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, etc., and look over the hair coloring products and don't buy the first thing you see. Think about it a little and try to envision how that color would look on you. Once you color your hair, it's hard to change it and it takes upkeep.

My daughter is half African American and she has colour put in her hair from her local salon. Her hair is straightened with Dark %26amp; Lovely mild relaxer. She doesn't have a lot of colour put in as her hair is very dry and the texture different than caucasians. I don't know whether you are in Australia, but there is a place in Sydney called Jingles at Burwood that specialises in 'black' hair. She also uses a ghd iron for straightening even further. I usually tip about 15%, sometimes 20%, depending on my mood. I've had 3 hairstylists since 1994 and when you find a good one, keep her or him. The first two had to leave the area, which had me searching endlessly for a good stylist. I've had my current stylist for about 5 years now and she's wonderful. You treat them well and believe me, they give you little perks without your realizing it. Sometimes my young children get their haircuts at very low prices.

I give my manicurists/pedicurists about 15%. I've had the same ones for about 8 years now. Pay them cash, because they don't get their tips until they get paid and taxes get taken out of that. The perks here are that sometimes without even realizing it, your massages are longer than the average time because you're so busy chatting with them.

Bottom line is that this is their livelihood and you really get what you pay for. good luck.

Don't straighten your hair every day. I know it will be hard to resist, but try washing it every other day so the straightening job lasts a little longer. Or you could just wear your hair natural some days.. it doesn't HAVE to be straight! :) Natural is pretty, too.

When you're straightening try and go quickly so it doesnt have time to burn your hair. There will be less damage the less time the heat is on your hair. Be especially careful when you get to the ends, since they are your biggest problem you said.

Try getting a trim to get rid of all of the already-damaged stuff and then start fresh. Don't straighten your hair as often, and when you DO straigten it you should blow dry it to get it mostly straight first. Just use the flat iron for touchups and to finish it off.

Use a deep conditioner every few days, too. But my biggest advice would just be to try as hard as you can to not straighten it every day, because that is really damaging no matter how careful you are!

one way to solve this is if you could get some pre-straightenning spray . it will make it easier to straighten and will protect your hair from damage.

at Sally's beauty supply they sell a special straightening spray that protects your hair from the heat of the straightening iron. it works great! i always use it before i straighten my hair. if you use the spray...when you begin straightening it may look like your hair is smoking(i freaked out the first time) but don't worry, its just steam from the water in the spray. also, if you have the option you may want to turn down the temp on your straightener to reduce damage. hope this helped^_^

1st off i definitely agree with the others advicing against straightening your hair everyday and getting your hair regularly trimmed.

2nd, i hope youre using a ceramic hair straightener as it has been proved that it does less damage to your hair, heats quicker than the old steel ones and the hair comes out a lot shinier.

3rd, before you do any heat styling to your hair you should use a heat protectant, spray it on sections of your hair before straightening it.

I have long, thin hair, which is fine until about 4 inches from the bottom and its all frizzy mess. I want to be able to wear my hair down! I can comb it ok and then 10mins after its frizzy again. It always parts into strands, I'd like to to flow as smooth and flowing if that makes any sense. Any suggestions?

I use healthy curls from suave, if you do anything to your hair (straighten it, crimp it etc.) you might want to use tresemes heat teamer, it will reduce the friz!

I have the same hair. The ONLY product that works for me ( ive used it for about 5yrs now) is John Friedas FRIZZ EASE. The shampoo, conditioner and sraightening serum. Wash and rinse your hair with the products, then apply the serum, then let your hair airdry for a bit. Then take a flat iron and straighten it. OR, if you dont want to straigten it, just wash it and wring out the extra water, comb through the hair, turn haed upside down and apply mousse and blowdry with a difusser.

you probably have too much things in your hair as is. maybe that is why your curls are not holding. shampoo, condition, rinse with luke warm water, towel blot, rub in thermal proctective cream or spray, comb through blow dry, use kenra thermal spray (it make beautiful curls and hold nicely). but take small section or easy since you are doing your own hair. section it in four or two down the middle. take a curling size section. easy to know the size section should be the same size of your curling iron. thats how you know how big of a section to take. this way heat with transfer thoughout that section of your hair. before your place the curling iron in your hair. spray the strand of hair first. then curl it. dont touch the hair. touching will make the hair fall quicker. when you dont touch it the hair will cool down and set in a beautiful curl. do each strand this way. once finish. use the kenra thermal spray on the entire head. by spraying it arm length of the hair. dont stay in one spot. your not trying to soak the hair. so just about three squirt.

Well theres some differences between camping outside and camping in a tent/cabin. But overall heres a pretty good list of what you should bring.

I wouldnt reccoment bringing too much food (if someone is providing it for you) because it will attract animals. If you want to bring food put it in a sealable tupperwear container to keep the smell in.

Remember to bring extra clothes incase it rains. Dont bring anything you are overly attached to incase it gets ruined.

i would not do blonde, that would look really harsh underneath. i would go with black, but blue and hot pink are really fun too. it you want to do blue and hot pink you'll probably have to bleach the hair blonde underneath before you dye it, so black would be a lot less work.

by the way- if you choose blue or hot pink, buy manic panic hairdye at sally's beauty supply. it is a very bright dye and shows up very well, it might even work on your natural hair without bleaching it. but the trick to manic panic is dying it once, and then dying it again a week layer. it fades quickly the first time, but if you do it twice it stays a lot better. don't be creeped out if it rinses in the shower and the water runs pink or blue. the tub of color usually gives you quite a few dyes.

however, a good pink thats a little darker is the loreal color rays you can probably find at most drug stores. that, from experience, stays more permanently.

Keep in mind, if you really like your haircut and you want to come back to this same stylist, be sure to leave a nice tip as this is something that stylists remember. I have heard friends that are stylists talk about the customer who undertipped them and you do NOT want to be that guy.

When I got older my roots started coming in a sandy blonde. I use a bleach-based hairdye, and I leave it on a bit longer than the instructions say. Sometimes I have to dye it twice to get the colour, if you have to dye it again and it turns a blonde/orange, don't use a bleach-based hair dye, it'll seriously fry your hair.

My hubby is one too. I'll tell you, his hair has major resistance to bleaching. A loong time ago, I did it once and a professional stylist did it to no avail.

You may have to just go with a darker shade of red. Auburn or something that may take better.

As a guy, if the permanent color is horrible you can chop it down low. Women can't really pull that off. So get some permanent color and do strand tests using your hair to see if you like it.

Best advice is.......get to a DECENT hairdressing salon (Unisex) and chat with the manager(ess). If they are any good they will snip off a small piece of hair where it can't be seen and do a test on it with the colours of your choice. They should ALSO do a patch test on your skin to see if you react. They will then let you know how your hair reacted to it.....if it is going to damage your hair permanently it will make it fragile or split.....or if you are going to react your skin will show it.....Most importantly TALK TO A PROFESSIONAL!!!!

Ok, I have medium hair about an inch or two below my shoulders. If i don't straighten my hair its a mix of curly/wavey. Go to your local beauty supply store. Make sure it's a supplier, they have products that are used in salons. Get a ceramic flat iron. They are great my hairdresser only uses them, they are quick and less damaging to your hair. Depending on the quality will depend on the price. As the person at the store for their recommendation, but you are going to be at the top of your budget.

I have never used the wet to straight, but be careful, having heat on your hair that long will damage it.

I think I have similar hair as you do so I have a little bit of advice. Now, I am bi racial so the texture of my hair might be slightly different, but mine is really soft with light corkscrew type curls if I were to just wear it. So here is a little bit of advice. Put some V05 in your hair. Just a little bit, maybe a dime size glob in your hand, then run your hands together and run your hands through your already staight hair. This layer of lubricant on your hair will protect it from some humidity. Another thing is to go to an African American or Hispanic hair shop and ask them to teach you to wrap your hair. Basically you just layer your hair in circles around your head, then you can wear a scarf or hat until you reach your destination, then just take out the pins and your ready to go. It also works well when you are sleeping. I found it difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake. I can do my hair in 5 minutes now. And my hair is very long, to my waist when straight.

Take a shower

Put your hair in braids, but not too thin and not too thick.

Blow dry it, or if you'd like, just leave them in overnight.

Spray just a tiny bit of hair spray or a little bit of gel on the braids.

And so i decided to do this, ok, i washed it with castile soap so it wouldnt strip away the essential oils then i used infusium 23 repairologie conditioner on my hair i work it all over it, then i put on nexxus humectress ultimate moisturizing conditioner, leave it in for 10 minutes. dont say itll make my hair greasy im mainly focusing on my tips. also my hair is really dry. And this may be weird but i use hherbal;l essences heloo hydration and it makes my hair super soft but the ends of my air are really dry, but i just got a haircut

i cant sayive ever tried that honestly... but what works for me is i get my hari wet and then put loads of conditioner in it then get out of the shower without rinsing my hair. i put my hair up in a towl or just leave it down to air dry for as long as possiable.... my friend leaves her conditioner in over night but i do it until my hair is dry (air dry it) then i hop back into the shower and rinse it out and my hair if nice and smooth! try putting extra conditioner on your tips..... and when your hair is clean and dry put in some bio silk "silk threapy" only a pea size tho and make sure you really rub your tips into the silk threapy with your palms and your hair will be really soft and not greasy....

try the frizz-ease line by john frieda... it worked wonders on my hair, probably would on yours too. funny thing, i discovered it when i was in my high school's marching band :) if you want to straighten it, try to get a wet-to-dry straightener.. blow dry until it's damp, then use the straightener on it. should tame it down.. then follow up with a frizz managing creme.. tresemme makes a really good one. if you want to go curly, try to get a curl repair spray or creme... it'll help keep the tendrils together and your hair won't be all over the place. :)

A French twist is always easy, even with wild hair. With a side part in front, it will look even more sophisticated. Try using Garnier Frucits Spray Gel...it holds great without making hair too heavy or stiff.

Use Paul MItchell hair serum. Its excellent. And get it from a realy good hair salon. Dont buy it from other stores.

After you wash your hair take off the excess hair with a towel and comb your hair when its wet get all the knots out and then put this hair serum in your hair and blowdry. Wroks wonders and You will look gorgeous. :-) Good Luck

You could try longer layers,which might take some of the bulk out. Mine's the same way,and I prefer to cut the curls off,much easier for me. The Frizz Ease line of styling products work well,as do Studio Line also has some for curly hair. One tip,put some gel in it while wet,comb it through,then don't touch it again. The gel will hold the curl,and keep it from frizzing so much. If you brush/comb it while it's drying,it will make it frizz more. Perhaps shorter than it is now,but still long enough to pull back. you can find it in salons. I love it, it works great, its not too heavy or greasy, and it has SPF in it so the sun won't fade your hair color.( you can use it on your skin too!)

I think the pony tail is probably your best bet. I recommend Aussie 3-minute miracle conditioner for the frizzy/poofy aspect. Also, if it poofs out too much, have your stylist use some thinning shears on it to give it a little more texture and less volume. Hope this helps.

I have the thickest , waviest hair on the planet. If you can afford it, I would recommend having it straightened (chemically). Mine lasts about 4-5 months and it is so much easier to deal with. It doesn't get it stick straight, but it does an awesome job.

If a hairdresser suggests it, try getting it layered. If not, there are curl-friendly styling products. After you shower, rub in some Paul Mitchell Super Skinny. It'll help tame the hair. Also try Aussie's Sprunch spray. It really helps in developing curls. Always use a conditioning shampoo. And, use a wide-took comb instead of a brush. Be sure to set your style with a quality hair spray.

Marching Band can always be hard on hair, especially with practicing in the sun, wearing awful hats while in dress... ugh. Good luck!

put REAL mayo in ur hair put it in tin foil or a shower cap for 30-45 minutes. then rinse it out... wash ur hair like 2 times with panteen pro v ((its a good shamppoo)) with conditioner ur hair should be shiny...

Get a flat iron - a ceramic, 25-heat setting that's 1-inch wide. It really makes your hair smooth and straight. But it can be damaging, so don't use it all the time. My hair is shoulder length with some layers. I wash my hair, and then I blow dry it . I spray on a protective coating. Then I section it and flat iron it section by section You have to keep it moving over your hair, from root to tip. This will last two days. (so i just wash my hair every other day.) Ask your hairdresser what she recommends you put on your hair before you flat iron it to protect it! You will love your new straight hair; on days that you don't want to wear it your naturally curly/wavy way. It's nice to be able to do both!

I know exactly what you mean! My hair is crazy and has a mind of its own, without all of the stuff I put in it. After washing your hair try a Pantene Pro-V conditioner. It helps my hair with frizz and fly-aways.

If you want to go curly:Towel dry it a little bit and comb it out. While it's still wet use Herbal Essences' Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse. It helps keep curls together and pretty. Then to make sure they stay together and not frizzy, I put Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Spray Gel. To top that off I "crunch" and blow dry my hair.

If you want to go straight: Blow- drying it in a room that doesn't have humidity in it helps A LOT with frizz. And before you start straightening it make sure it's completly dried. After you straighten it, put a little bit of hairspray on it, just in case.

1. Choose a shampoo or conditioner by looking for the words smoothing, moisturizing or hydrating on the front of the bottle (I use Pantene Pro-V for dry and damaged hair).

2. After washing, towel dry and apply a smoothing or frizz serum (I like John Frieda鈥檚 Frizz Ease鈥ound at most drug stores).

3. Let hair hang dry until it is almost fully dry. When almost dry, finish drying with a blow dryer while using a round boar-bristle brush (work with small areas at a time �?do not let your hair blow all over the place, otherwise it will just become more unruly).

4. Make sure your hair is completely dry. If there is anymore moisture left it will become frizzy.

5. By using a 1-1/2 inch (or larger) curling iron or a flat iron, you can smooth out any left over frizz.

6. You can also apply a hair wax (like Bumble and Bumble Styling Wax) or pomade (like Got2B Defiant Define Plus Shine Pomade) now.

7. Finish off by using a flexible hair spray (like Finesse鈥檚 Touchable hair spray).

* Get your ends trimmed up at least every 6 weeks.

Hi can anyone recommend any shampoo or condtioner or other tips for thin hair. At the moment i use pantene full and thick and it helps. Sunsilk do a good shampoo and conditioner for fine hair. (Think it's the purple one) and they are really cheap. MOP products will probably help you as they are all organic, and don't make your hair greasy. I have tried some of these and they are good. They do lemongrass lift spray which you spray on dry hair at the roots and use a brush to give your hair some lift. There is also a lemongrass shampoo and conditioner if you want the full range! As I said, it is good stuff, but I had to buy mine online as I couldn't find a shop that sells it.

Short hair is in and has been for a long time and I was fed up with the mess as was everyone I know. I used to keep it short but let myself go in recent years.

Used clippers but was able to avoid a skinhead cut unlike last time. Used no 4 comb all over (but not too close) and No 2 at the bottom of the back and along the sides. Scissors for the fiddly bits.

Bottom of the back needs some attention as is quite uneven (that part always was a problem even when I got it done professionally) but the rest of it is okay.

The only exception would be if you were to give yourself a buzz cut using clippers. The clipper's guides the razor evenly so you can't really make a mess of it. And if you didn鈥檛 want your hair cut really short you could properly just use a #5 guard to buzz it.

I don't mean all over colour, because I'm just dying the tips of my hair pink or pink under my layers(which one should I choose?). Well if you did only the tips of the hair that would be easier to hide. All you'd have to do is fold your hair in half inwards. Meaning, hold your hair in a ponytail at the base of your neck and then fold the ponytail so that the ends of your hair are tucked underneath near the base of your neck. Tie it up there with a cute band or clip and your set. It looks neat and professional and the pink is hidden. Good luck :)

Lara from High Fidelity rocked it pretty well without it looking extreme- I think pink under your layers is more subtle and also probably looks better. That way, you can always tie it up in a ponytail so it's much less noticeable.

hi, i'd say dye under your layers as that way not much will show normally but if you wear your hair up or with a clip etc you can show as much of the pink areas as you want - great for a 'normal' look for work etc and a more daring look for evenings or night out. When I first went pink I opted for the layers underneath also and told my family that it was vegetable dye so it could be rinsed out quickly if I wanted and that seemed to make them feel better when they knew I would not be stuck with pink hair in 6 months time and hating it (or so they thought - 3 years on am experimenting more lol).

You can do it at home.. Part out the amount of hair you want to color (have someone help you so the part is straight) then tie the rest of the hair up, you can put a shower cap on that part of the hair if you're afraid of getting dye on it. Put the dye on, rinse and voila, you're done.

I need hair help. I can't decide what type of hair I have -- I can't tell if it's fine, medium or thick (I doubt thick). Does it look fine, medium, or what? And if it's fine, are just the strands fine, or is it fine and sparse as well?

Also I need tips. Does fine hair need trims more often to stay healthy or anything? Do thickening shampoos work? What are general ideas to make it thicker? I'm a guy and I really want my hair to my shoulders, all one length but I don't want some thin looking ponytail someday. Is all one length a good idea? Any and all advice appreciated!!

Well, to give a good shading effect go dark to light by letting the dark fade out from one side of the head. Try not to make the top to thin of hair and the for long hair dont forget to make enough ends. Lots of people just have a few ends so it looks like the person has barely any hair. It's kinda hard to explain how to draw something without pictures.

I have big waves in my hair.It makes my side bangs stick out and there is a wavy at my ear and another at the tips of my hair by my shoulders.I want to know if i can get my hair straighter without any straighting iron.My friend told me to try blow drying it and running my fingers through it and that made it less puffy.If i let my hair air dry it goes really wavy in those 3 spots.I can't get a perm(moms rules) so does anyone have ideas.

My hair is exactly the same! It drives me crazy too! I finally found a combination that works to straighten my hair. First I use the John Frieda straightening hair serum. You put it on your hair right out of the shower and comb it through. Then I usually let my hair partially air dry. Once it gets about halfway dry, I use another product by VO5, called Miracle!. I have to dry my hair in layers as it is VERY thick. I clip up half my hair, spray the Miracle! on and then blow dry with a big, round, vented brush. You have to actually pull on the brush and hold your hair straight while you are blow drying. I do this in sections for the underneath layer, then take the top layer out of the clip, spray on the product and do the same for the top. It is awesome! It really does work and makes your hair soft, shiny and straight! Hope this helps!

Well there is a special shampoo and conditioner (two-in-one) that is really really helpful. It is by John Freida; and it says 'STRAIGHT HAIR'... it contains non-harmful chemicals for getting the strands rigid. Pantene has a new line of stuff out now that you can use before you blow dry or frizeze is good and try using a paddle brush in order to pull the curl out. There are tons of magazines and online sites that have hair styles you just have to look for one with a little curl and something that you can work with.

The idea that shaving and/or nair-ing causes hair to grow back thicker or harder than normal is mostly untrue. I say mostly because the new hair that grows back is a little darker and more coarse, but that's only due to the lack of friction causing it to be worn down, and also the lack of time in sunlight to bleach it.

please go to a salon or a professional to do this u will end up either frying your hair or turning it green or some other weird colour. u may not get it back to the origional blond but they can get as close as possible. tell them what u want to have done and if they can't help keep trying until u find one that will.

Sounds like you really like to experiment with colors. Personally, I think colors that extreme will make you look silly and nobody will take you seriously. Try the BioSilk line for dry frizzy hair. It works wonders. Use it in wet hair as a leave in conditioner. I don't like the Aussie line. Its too cheap and you get what you pay for.

You could use a texture cream to get more volume so that when you blow dry you get more lift.

OKie dokie. . .my son's hair is extremelly curly, I took him to a barber/stylist shop to get him dreads, when I made the appt, I was assured they did this and all would be well. Let's just say my son walked out with corn rows instead or dreads because the stlist said his hair did not curl enough near the base of his head but more near the tips of his hair. Well of course he never having corn rows before, they came out in 5 days, what a nice expensive lesson for him and me, lol. My husband however is mad. He has seen many people with dreads, white people, asian poeple, and does not understand how a child that has such curly hair can not get dreads. Do we have to buy the online kit that comes with super dooper hair gunk to do this? I am stumped, any advice or help would be good. I am not in any hurry though to do this now. With me having to brush out $35 the other night and pull 2 perfectly good teeth out of his mouth today, I am going to go partially insaine today I think, lol. Ok bye :

Be sure your son's really wants locks it's a spiritual process you have to have patience with your hair, depending on your hair texture everyone hair doesn't lock the same. I don't know your ethnic background but anyone can get locks. If you want them to look nice and professional your best bet is to go to a licensed locktician who is knowledable about maintaining natural hair. I have natural hair meaning no chemicals, and I also wore locks for five years. your son have to be really serious about locking his hair you have to keep it maintained ex: once my hair locked I washed it every two weeks then you have to twist the new growth. I don't know what area you live in but in the philadelphia area there are two natural salons that I go to one is AU Naturale in Germantown the other is Brownstone natural hair studio in Philadelphia on south st they are both professional salons I'm sure they can help you or find a salon in your area. Anyone can have dreads. Though I imagine if you have "white" hair you can't go to a barber to have it done. I knew a girl in high school with bone-straight hair. She twisted it and didn't brush it for a long time. It started getting nappy and then she started to "style" the locks.

Now, in your case, if you're son wants dreads and has lost two teeth then I am wondering what's going on. Is he trying to be a thug? Did he get in a fight? Maybe he should get a buzz cut instead, you know the kind they give new recruits in the military.

The salon should have been more specific about doing the dreads, as to how curly the hair has to be, and where the most curl has to be. They should have told you right away after initially looking at your son's hair before they even started. Was this a salon with mostly African-American clientele? If so, their neglect of informing you about this was inexcusable. Next time, try another salon, and make sure before they start, that they can do the dreads for your son. Better yet, you might tell them of your bad experience so they will be sure not to make the same mistake.

I have seen a lot of white hippies in Santa Barbara with dreads. They look really nasty like creatures are living in them, though. They come out like a dog that hasn't been brushed in ten years that has huge, flat-looking dirty mats. I asked one of them how they got their hair like that and they said that they have to tangle it really good by hand at first and then never wash it, or the mats will start to come out.

ok I am a cacasian girl with dreads. My hair is extreamly curly but that only made my dreads tighten up faster but my boyfriend has straight hair and he has some of the most beautiful dreads i have ever seen. The trick that worked for me, was washing my hair with shampoo that didnt leave any residue. nothing that moisterises. Then I didnt brush my hair for like a month and kept just tearing apart the forming dreads. I dont know how long your son's hair is but my hair was 14 inches befor my dreads and my dreads ended up being like 6 maybe 7 inches. also another trick that seemed to work on the few dreads that didnt tighten up was backcombing. You tack a peice of hair about a 1 inch chunk and start about an inch from the top and start combing from the bottom up and keep doing that untill you get to the bottom. you will get a big knot but that will start the dread. The more you get the dread wet then it dries it will tighten up.

You don't have to get a kit to get dreads. Just don't comb his hair for a while and it will begin to get all twisted up and basically that is what dreads do. You can gently encourage his hair by twisting it in a half inch glops of hair from root to the end of the strand--Start at the root and twist to the ends of each section or stand. You can NOT brush corn rolls/rows or dreads, PERIOD. Combing is a NO-NO for these hair styles. This is part of the hairdo not to brush of comb it. It must be left to it's own devise to have good "dreads" or "dray-locks". Combing or brushing ruins "dray" results, you see..The hair can be washed with the rolls, rows or dreads in the hair. Sometime lint will get trapped in the hair just pick it out and dust it away. Good luck.

Right now I just like dyeing the tips of my hair and bangs. I typically get a family member to dye it for me, but they hate doing it. My hair is lower-back length so i can bring it forward to dye the tips with no problem, but how would i do my own bangs? I cut my own bangs, but thats because i cut them so i can still see the ends. What is a good way for me to dye (and bleach every so often) my bangs? Using a mirror isn't a great idea due to my complete lack of coordination and I cannot see more than a few inches in front of my fact without my glasses.

Also, I may start bleaching and dyeing the entirety of my hair. How would I do that on my own? And if i wanted multiple colors, how would I do that on my own? In a year or so I will be moving away to a college far away from anyone I know, so it would be great to know how to do this on my own. Thanks!

I've got several for you!!

Use vaseline on your lips then brush over them, with a toothbrush, to remove the dead skin. If you do this religiously EVERY night you will never have chapped lips again!

Use moisterizer on your face every night. No exception. Even if you have oily skin like myself. Your skin produces oil to compensate for lack of moisture. By appropriately hydrating your face your skin will cease over production of oil which is the #1 cause of breakout (clogged pores)

If you have a breakout use white toothpaste. A lil dab will do you. Wait till it dries then go to sleep with it on your face. The next morning your pimple will be significantly downsized!

If you have an inflamed pimple...red and nasty...use Visine. A lil squirt on your pimple will do wonders.

Use conditioner on your hair first before you shampoo. You will tell a difference in your hair immediately.

If you have sensitive skin, stay away from Benzoyl Peroxide!! If your wanting a product like Proactiv, but have sensitive skin, try this http://www.acnecomplex.com its excellent for sensitive skin, and actually will clear up your face quicker!

HAIR - again [: if you flat iron your hair alot, a good tip (and trick) is to blow dry your hair first. Some people just let there hair air dry and do there make up or something while they wait. That actually fries and damages your hair even more, plus your hair won't always be perfectly strait. Blow dry your hair out as strait as you can get it, even if you have wavy/frizzy or curly hair. Then run the flat iron over it. It makes your hair alot softer, shinier, smoother, and it will take alot longer for you to see noticable heat damage :D

~ Drink lots of milk. The best way to get healthy looking nails is to drink lots of milk!!

Since you have light reddish hair. I would recommend that you use a light green or brown-golden eye shadow. Use either one and lightly sweep it on the top to the lid where it creases. But dont go over the crease. Use a light skin color shade in between the color and the bottom of lid. Report It

Use light browns and greens for your eyeliner, and dont apply too heavily. Red hair and hazel eyes need a dark or interesting color to make your eyes pop against the hair.

Use a light color for cheeks, like a coral or pale pink.

For gloss go for light or clear colors, nothing really dark red or brown. To go out at night go darker on the lips.

I hate foundation....but a lot of people need it. Make sure it matches your skin tone.

And whatever you do, don't forget mascara. Not black, brown, because you have red hair and black eyelashes would have people knowing that it was fake, and the point is to have it look more on the natural side, unless youre a showgirl.

Okay , i would only focus on your eyes. Because putting

too much all over looks messy. Pick a feature and put

all the attention to it. Since you have fair skin, big eyes, and

freckels i would focus on the eyes. Do a sheer scented/flavored

lip gloss (not tinted or very lightly tinted ) make sure it has

a nice sweet smell to it.

As for the eyes you have hazel. Do this get some eyeshadow

in these colors : orange (yes orange), forest green, and

purple. This are polar colors to your current eye color and

they will make your eye color pop ( especially the orange )

dont put it all over the lid, Keep it close to the lashes.

Now use a very thick charcoal pencil ( eyeliner) take

your time when you do it . Thick lashes too.

Another fun thing to do is wear a nuetral eyelid color

thick eyeliner, but wear a colored mascara-like hot pink

or purple. You want to put alot of emphasis on your eyes.

Also dont underestimate the value of blush. I dont

know what color you need cause i cant see you.

But most fair skinned people look good in a peach

shade.

Make sure your eyebrows are plucked to look natural

not over done. Too thin never looks good. Keep it

as natural looking as you can.

I would suggest using mark. Make up products. I would use c-thru-u Beautifying Sheer Tint in Mark 1 for a foundation. Then Powder-matic loose powder (or if you have oily skin Matte-nificent oil absorbing powder) for your powder. Then depending on the type of look you want you could use mark's Instant Vacation Bronzing Powder as a blush and a little on your eyelids or you could use Good Glowing Blush which comes in a few different shades that you could choose from depending on the look you're going for. mark. also has great eye shadows to choose from. Then depending on what you would rather wear you could use a Glow Baby Glow lip gloss or a Dew Drenched lip color depending on if you like lip gloss or lipstick.

mark. also has many other great make up products and accessories to choose from the ones that I have named are all just ones that I am suggesting.

I also have very fair skin and freckles. What I did was I went to Macy's to the girls at the makeup counters there and asked their advice since tanning was pretty much out of the question with my super fair skin. Every skin type is still different of course but I'd suggest talking to them definitely. They also came up with some great eyeshadow combinations to bring out my eyes while still looking pretty natural. What they eventually suggested to me as for foundation was something that was probably two shades darker than my actual skin tone but blended well looked fantastic-like I Actually had pigment! They also suggested using a light bronzer. I was very happy. And for hair, definitely consult your stylist. They're the professionals after all =~_^=

Don't buy into the need to be tan and dark. Light skin and freckles are gorgeous. You don't need to change you to be beautiful because you already are beautiful.

I don't know what you already do for makeup, but you could do a light eye liner, mascara and lip gloss. It will look fresh, natural, and beautiful. Also, if you really play up color on the eyes then use more neutral colors on the rest of your face. Its great to accentuate one part to draw focus to different things. Play around have fun. :)

Don't cover your skin with foundation-just use it to blend over red spots, or to even out. If you do this-have a professional match it up for you. Light skin is hard to match and you don't want to be blotchy or look like you have a "mask".

Use a concealer for more "problem" areas. Boing by Benefit is a beast.

Blush is the most important-to look "flushed" make sure to hit the apple of your cheek and draw it back lightly. A peachy pink would be great-maybe Orgasm from Nars. Very natural.

Then a natural eye-mascara on the outside corners only, in a blue or green mascara or a super black. That will make eye "pop". Start at the root and wiggle the brush back and forth for more definition. I like False Eyelashes-Prescriptives, Bad Gal Lash-Benefit, and Lash Perfection-Max Factor.

Finish off with a natural looking color that is harmonious to you blush. Don't do a nude because it will wash you out. The MAC counter is the lipstick goddess's best friend.

Hello everyone! I have black hair and I really want white hair on the tips of the hairs on top of my hair. Many people think I am joking but I am not, I really want to highlight it. I've seen people with short black hair and blonde highlights, so I want white highlights on my short black hair too. Any suggestions to find white highlight products?

The chances of getting black hair white before it breaks off is about 1% And getting all of the ends white .005% Sorry it's just to hard on the hair to try and strip out that much pigment. Something that you might consider is getting white hair extensions that can be put in as highlights. Sorry for the bad news!

Personally i wouldnt highlight it white just for a couple of reasons first being that u would have to sit there for quite a while for ur hair to lift so many levels to a white, secondly it could seriously damage your hair making it brittle,dry, strawed etc

it will look horrible but what you do is use a chemical lightener such as bleach or a non-ammonia product by loreal professional (my fav) and lift the color by leaving it on under a heat lamp for fifteen minutes. then you color over the bleached/color stripped hair with white hair dye.

please get this professionally done. black hair is the most difficult to get light because of all the colors in your hair. colors that make up black hair... orange...purple...red. if you try this yourself you will get stuck in one of those colors and end up seeing a professional anyway. are you sure you want white? why not a nice blond? if you are wanting it white, for sure see a pro...you don't want to end up looking like a skunk's back by doing this yourself.

That is so awesome, but if you want to highlight ur hair white it can't just be the top of ur hair. You should put them in streaks of white. You have to go to a salon though, since you have black hair it's going to be hard to get some of those locks white. When you do this aim for a snow white color that will look cool.

Do they like “teach�?you what an inch is in hair styling school? Do they compare it to a ruler and tell you why it’s different than what every other single person in the US considers an inch? One hairdresser told me, “Yeah an inch. 3 fingers.�?3 FINGERS!! WHAT??? It’s like an inch and a half AT THE TIP of your little fingers. And you don’t measure hair at the tip of your fingers, you hold the hair through the MIDDLE of your fingers to measure. That’s more like 2 INCHES!

THEN AFTER you have ALREADY cut too much off, you go trimming and texturizing, cutting yet ANOTHER 2 inches off.

By the end of the haircut, you’ve cut FOUR TIMES more hair than I asked you to. Seriously, I look at the floor at the end of the cut and there isn’t a single hair SHORTER than an inch and a half.

No clue, I am still growing my idiotic mullet that the hairdresser gave my when I asked for an inch off. When I saw it in the mirror I was like ooh my goshh, then I was like um can you fix this? And she like cut it from my shoulders to my chin I was like I am NOT paying for this and I walked out.

maybe you just found the screw up who didn't go to school or didn't pay alot of attention in class. one time my aunt did that saying i had serious split ends. they might do that cause they are jealous when they see a guy with healthier hair than them. I went to get my hair cut about a month ago. I even brought a picture to show the woman what to do. Somehow she interpreted that the back of the woman's hair in the picture looked like complete crap and decided to put in these awful layers. Not even normal layers - layers that it looks like a 3 year old would do. Its as if she took a weed whacker to the back of my head and started abritrarily removing huge chunks of my hair. I didn't ask for layers, she didn't tell me she was doing layers, she didn't ask if I wanted layers, and the woman in the picture didn't even have layers.

At the end of the haircut she decided she'd show me what she had done. She had managed to take a round brush and a hair dryer and fashion the back of my head to look like a hairy lightbulb. Yet she still managed to make the front look pretty (although a half an inch shorter than the back. I told her I wanted my hair to be shorter and she only cut the front of my hair shorter). Getting home I discovered that she missed pieces of my hair that went about a half an inch longer than the back of my hair. I have no idea what she was thinking and now I'm just waiting for my hair to grow out so I can fix it.

She's the only bad experience I've had in about 8 years
