This is what i do:

Take a shower

Put your hair in braids, but not too thin and not too thick.

Blow dry it, or if you'd like, just leave them in overnight.

Spray just a tiny bit of hair spray or a little bit of gel on the braids.

Let the hairspray/gel dry and then take out the braids.

That might not work for everyone, though.

Well don't make it look so scanky. Wrap dry hair around a large curling iron ( don't use the clamp.) Use your hand and just wrap a chunk around and hold for 14 seconds. Hold on to the end of your chunk so it won't curl in/out. You don't want it to look like you curled it. You want it to look natural.

Section your hair and braid or twist it. You may need rubberbands for the ends and leave it in for a while.

Well, when I do my hair like that (very often) I braid my hair, then take a shower and make sure your hair DOES get wet. Then use a blow drier while it is still braded then take is out and let it naturally dry.
