Any suggestions for ethnic heat damaged hair?

I'm half African American, half Indian, so my hair has always been thick, curly and coarse. About a year ago the texture began changing to thin, curly and softer, but it was breaking from the root. I think its because I went to the hairdresser every 2 weeks and they would put vast amounts of heat in my hair without protecting it first. It has been growing back, and I cut about 3 inches off because of split ends. I really want to put a texturizer in it but I want to wait until I'm 100% sure that its healthy again. Any tips on hair products that can strengthen it?

Commit to a deep conditioning twice a week. The best that I have found is a product found in the African American products is this deep conditioner called Cholesterol. Its not fancy and its not expensive but it can work a miracle. Have your hair trimmed at least once every three weeks. Keep the heat styling to a minimum, try just boosting your curls with a curl cream (not gel) and smoothing it with an anti frizz serum and drying it with a diffuser instead of direct heat. They have tons of affordable heat protectors in all stores, buy one use it every day and insist your hair dresser do the same.

I say Kara Care is the best for ethnic hair. You can use the hemecto as a deep, put it all over your hair concentrating on the ends put a plastic cap on and sit under the dryer for 15-30mins once a week and you should be good. You can get your textureizer as long as you are taking care of your hair. Let a hair dresser do it to be on the safe side.

I had the same problem you are having! Im black, white, french and indian. My hair use to be down right unruly! Try washing your hair with aussie shampoo, then use the 3 minute mirace conditioner. The was I use the conditioner after washing and making sure all of the tangles are out, put a nice size in your hand and massage throughout. Comb to make sure it is evenly distributed through your hair. Use a plastic heat cap, and sit under a hooded dryer, or use a hand held. Then wash out with a vinegar rinse to make sure all of the residue from the conditioner is washed out. After that use the aussie leave in conditoner and style your hair as usual. It works for me and I hope it works for you! Good luck!

Protein is very good for strengthening hair breakage. A great spray on protein product to use is Wella Liquid Hair Restructurizer Leave In Treatment. It strengthens damaged hair and also leaves hair with shine and body. I have had several hair dressers recommend this product.

Another great product is Paul Mitchell Super Strong Treatment. It restores elasticity, rebuilds and strengthens your hair.

If you don't mind splurging - this 3 piece product is the absolute best - Warren Tricomi Purestrength for extremely dry and damaged hair. It instantly cures damaged cuticles and leaves hair more hydrated and strong. It's $75 for the 3 piece system. I've used this myself and have seen wonderful results. Go to: www.warrentricomi.com

Good luck!
