the person who has been cutting my hair for many years now owns his own salon. I have always tipped him at least 15% before he became an owner. Should I keep tipping him the same amount, I get my hair cut about every 2 months at $55.00

I can see that you're kinda confused. Well, a tip of 15 to 20% is appropriate in a beauty salon. However, if the owner is your stylist they usually do not get a tip. But since you have been doing it, I would recommend to continue, lol, you wouldn't want your hair ruined. The reason you do not tip the owner is because all the profit goes directly to the owner. Employees get a tip because they earn less and the tip becomes a part of their salary. But do what you think is the best :)

I'd continue to tip him, he's still doing the work on your hair. I pay $65 for my hair cut once a month and tip $10-$20 depending on the quality of the cut.

I have always heard you are not required tip salon owners, but when I looked some sites said you are not required to tip and others stated you should tip as if they were a stylist. I guess it is personal choice.

your kidding right.. $55.00 for a hair cut? Your crazy isn't no hair cut worth that. Get a friends who can do it and save the money. Or go to a school to get it. As for your question you are paying the person $55.00 for your haircut and they don't need a tip. It should be included at that price. If not tough for them. I wouldn't pay a tip at any barber or salon. I never have and never will. There more than paid for what they do save the tip for the poor waitress making 2.15 an hour or maybe your newspaper deliverer if there good as they get paid bad money for there jobs.
